Here we are exactly 450 months after our first date. I guess that is one of the reasons the USC-UCLA football games have such a fondness to me.

My daughter Karen sent this picture to us today of herself high above Cape town , South Africa. Travel is certainly one way — if not the only way — to have a chance at understanding the world.
Obviously, it looks like a nice day there… I thought it was supposed to be winter?

I really don’t want to pick on ex-President Jimmy Carter. Frankly, I am sure that what bothers him most is that no one really takes him seriously… even those I know who “like him.”
He’s not the kinda guy you would want to take with you as protection walking through a dark alley. At the first sign of danger, you’d know you were a dead man.
Every time I pick up the paper or peek into the web, I see Jimmy dissing some person here or there and you can’t help but feel sorry for the guy who no one will trust with anything scarier than a rabbit.
My wife is related to President Van Buren, the founder of the Democratic party and labled by many as the country’s worst president. However, I think her ancestor is off the look because Jimmy has closed the distance. Anyone who has lived through the ‘Jimster’ years of double diget inflation or the ‘walk softly and carry a big petticoat’ years of foreign policy will remember how we all hoped and prayed for a vigorous America. So, I have a hard time taking Jimmy Carter very seriously, he’s just so wrong.

I seldom blog on science fiction, but science fiction is a subject that has always fascinated and captured the interest of me and my family. Science non-fiction is valued as well.
So whether it be any of the Star Treks or the wonderful Stargate Series, there is always time reserved.
Some of my fondest memories is of our children climbing into bed with us to watch Star Trek Next Generation ( I am scene here as either a ‘Captain’ but my likely a mischievous “Q”.
So here is my small tribute to all the fans out there who love Science Fiction… or Harry Potter.

Well, here I am at the Los Angeles Zoo. Thanks to Jenny Craig I am down 68 lbs which feels very good. The problem is that according to the BMI (Body Mass Index) I am ‘very obese’…. which is funny since I am 6’4″ and wear a size 36 pair of shorts. However, I plan to drop a bit more.
Karen is in South Africa with her cookbook by Jenny Craig and an entire case of Jenny Craig “complete Start” cereal… so she’s all set. She said she was going to take a picture of her J.C. case, her and Capetown and send it to the fine people at Jenny Craig.
Sometimes, I think with all the feasting and famine in human history that we are naturally prone to yo-yo in our dieting… but I like it here as a thiner me… so I plan to continue losing and stay a while… if not forever.
