Dr. Karen Freberg becomes official!

I made this heaping pile of BBQ’d Ribs for Karen’s graduation Party! Chef Kristin prepared Prime Rib Steaks, garlic Bread, Roosevelts Baked beans and plenty of goodies!

It is always exciting when someone we know achieves a milestone and our daughter Karen gained her doctorate at the University of Tennessee this week! In addition, even in this tough job market, she was offered and accepted a tenured track position at the University of Louisville! Congratulations!

The University of Louisville will be Karen’s new home

I guess going to the Kentucky Derby in Louisville may be in our future plans!

Karla's Art on the right

Karla loves it when folks use her art — whether they realize it or not — and some of the readers of this blog may remember when a sports writer in Tennessee wanted to use it on his paper’s site.

Anyway, in doing a search of images in Tennessee up popped this cake!

Way to go, Karla!

Karla’s 15 minutes of fame

Karla loves the internet and drawing, it fits with her overall interest in the world around her. Naturally, when she noticed a young reporter using one of  her illustrations for his story, you can imagine how excited and happy she became. The entire family received repeated emails about the event!

We gave Karla her own  domain to post her drawings and she is catching on to the entire web design thing as well fairly quickly.

Congratulations Karla.

By the way, Karla’s big sister Karen (nick named by her ‘the poodle’) was an athlete at SC and previously Florida and drew lots of Trojans!

One of the many variety of Trojans Karla has drawn! ( Karen the fighting poodle?)

Packing right IS rocket science!

the packaged arrived safely!
the packaged arrived safely!

Maybe it was because I moved as a child more times than I can remember. I think moving to five different second grades (yes, wise guy, all in one academic year)  taught me how to pack and travel light!

However, my children took a little longer. After her freshman year in college, Karen sent all of her stuff home in a number of large boxes without any padding. Obviously clothes were fine… but then there was the computer with the led screen. Interestingly enough, it all made it in perfect working order, although with a big dent in the back of the computer.

So, I teased poor Karen for years on her packing. Nowadays, she could work with Bekins, Allied or anyone… she is a ‘master packer.’

All of this came to play when Karen sent a few gifts home for the ‘fam’ or the ‘rents’ as some call their parents. Everything arrived perfectly and no crumbs!

Thanks again, Karen.

Karen Freberg's Public Relations Blog

My daughter Karen has been blogging for a number of years and has had her  own web site since she was in 7th grade. I remember it started off as a Val Kilmer fan site then evolved into a site reflecting Karen’s impressive track & field experiences ( she even had a popular web based newsletter) as a Gator and later as a Trojan while in grad school.

So, I am not too surprised that she is doing things in her field of Public Relations that draws some attention. Business week lists ‘the most active stories based on user activity’ and here is a recent mention.

Sounds like your having fun.
