Hear what others have said.

As for me, I try to do those things that need to be done, but no one has time to do. Karen handles the web site, but she’s in the middle of planning her  presentation in China  and final examinations… so I  updated Laura’s picture with a current version.  I guess she didn’t like looking like a middle schooler? It was one of those pixel by pixel challenges.

The idea is to try to think about something meaningful, something helpful or something fun for the two of you. and remember, to succeed in any relationships, you must have 5 positive interactions for ever 1 criticism… how are you doing?

Desktop Psychology

Laura and I at the Ronald Reagan Ranch!

I always have found it a window into someone’s world to see what they place on their desktop. I am sure there is an entire Psychology surrounding the choices people make from the simple to the complex and the impersonal to the very intimate.

For me, what I place on my desktop has got to make me smile.

My desktop has had pictures of family, our travels, family events of significance, and great cuisine we’ve made. The common variable in all of this…is… family.

The picture above is of Laura and I at the ranch of Ronald and Nancy Reagan.

It makes me smile.

Western Women’s Conference 2008

Western Women's Conference 2008Laura and I have enjoyed attending each others functions, although lately, Laura’s level of ‘activities’ has bumped upward significantly.

It’s still fun to see the ‘other half’ in action.

Laura will be speaking at this year’s Western Women’s Summit being held at the Reagan Ranch Center. Although I haven’t seen her presentation, I am sure it will be entertaining.

Part of the appeal to me will be a tour of “Dutch’s” Ranch and that should be fun.

Clare Boothe Luce Policy institute is sponsoring the event. Clare Boothe Luce was certainly interesting in her day, here are a few quotes that amused me:

I don’t have a warm personal enemy left. They’ve all died off. I miss them terribly because they helped define me.

Nature abhors a virgin — a frozen asset.

There is nothing harder than the softness of indifference.

Love is a verb

No good deed goes unpunished

Because I am a woman, I must make unusual efforts to succeed. If I fail, no one will say, “She doesn’t have what it takes.” They will say, “Women don’t have what it takes”

Publishing Your Story

Kristin's experience in Iraq

Recently, my daughter Kristin gifted us with a book. This wasn’t a book you can buy on-line or in the store… but one she put together herself on-line and published a few copies.

It’s her story of the invasion of Iraq and as she says,‘it is not about war… it is about people.’ The book shows pictures of the folks who made it happen and lived to tell the tale… and some who didn’t make it through the war or died later in Afghanistan. It was amazing.

2 Years in Command, Congratulations!

Kristin is always in command

Fathers always see different things in their daughters than most people. Kristin is an excellent chef, musician, artist, athlete…. and good person.

Kristin is also an accomplished Army Engineer Captain having reached the unusual milestone –today — of 2 years in command. Congratulations, sweetheart.

This reminds me that I need to update my ‘tribute to Kristin’ blog. I’ll probably have to wait until I attend her change of command ceremony next month.

So, how is Kristin celebrating? I understand she’s doing some ‘camping’ with a few thousand friends.
