Southern California Trojans Settle the Burning Question

DJ doing what he does best... pointing out to the defense that they needed to guard him better... then he made his td.Well… I remember the whining… the ‘Urbanizing’ of many blogs that said that the Trojans were unworthy to face big bad Ohio State and that Michigan should get it’s chance…. BECAUSE they really deserved it.

32-18 didn’t settle the National Championship aspirations of the Trojans… but it proved that the Trojans can play with anyone… and on their day… win!

“They have a great defense,
but I think we have too many weapons. Can we get to a certain spot, or stretch the field vertically?”— Dwayne Jarrett

From my perspective, the Trojans had it handled easily on defense… the real question for me was whether or not the Trojan offense could get it together. The Rose Bowl made me a believer that John David Booty was coming into his own… and for the first time…  showing real leadership and calm under pressure. He stood tall in the pocket and seemingly impressed the former qb in the t.v. announcers box… and that’s not easy.

The stats didn’t say it all … because after the game was in hand, the Trojans seemed to ease back and run “student body right”… which they didn’t do previously and racked up some rushing yardage… they also let a few go by on defense that may have refelcted the lead… or too much time by the defense on the field. In any event, it wasn’t that close.

Congratulation to the Great USC football team… remember this moment, sovour this time together… it never gets any better than this.

Fight on!

PS. Now the question remains… Ohio State and Florida? This is sort of a civil war around our house… Karen is also a Florida Grad and Laura is a loyal Ohio State fan… as for me… I have already watched THE Game!

But the question remains… what would SC and Ohio State have done if they had met? … And who will Urban Meyer blame if Florida loses? Certainly, Urban is starting to crow early:

“The country wants to see the Southeast Conference champion
against a Big Ten champion.”
— Florida coach Urban Meyer
after winning the SEC Championship (
12/02/06)

Boisie State needs to play a real schedule
Is USC really that good?

Jenny Craig & Wii & 20 lbs!

twenty pounds and falling!Okay, I have to admit it… Jenny Craig really does work. In spite of my best efforts to submarine my diet with a Giant TURDUCKEN luncheon on Christmas, I still managed to lose weight this week!

I am now down twenty pounds… which percentage-wise isn’t all that impressive… but it is moving in the right direction.

Not much exercise happening this past week as we were all still under the weather… but we played a lot of the Wii Zelda game… the second or third time through for some of us.

Stay Tuned! I am sure I will lose a bunch when the Southern California Trojans meet the Wolverines of Michigan in the Rose Bowl!

Fight On!

PS. I hear that Texas has given Michigan their ‘secret’ play from Vince Young… “slant right”… as I remember, that was Texas’s entire playbook.

There’s a little “Devil wears Prada” in all of us!

Recently, I confessed one of my most private secrets… that I have always enjoyed “Pride & Prejudice” in the original and in all of it’s various and glorious forms. However, I have done something that some of my biker buddies might find amusing….

the devil and her assistant... make that... 2nd assistantI enjoyed the movie “the Devil Wears Prada”. Now, my daughters and my wife shot out and watched it the first day it came out in the theaters… and I — only reluctantly — viewed it after it came out on DVD… and only after it had dropped in price. Hey, but I loved it…. and I have watched it… well.. more times than I would like to admit.

Why did I enjoy a movie that so clearly appeals to women?

Because — although it is about fashion and the fashion industry — it is really speaks to how many businesses are run… and a lot about the people who run them. I think most people have worked for a goal obsessed, career dominated and self absorbed boss. These are not ‘people persons’… but they are useful people none-the-less… they keep America running.

So — for me — this movie began a journey that helped reduce the gap in my mind from the world I live in… and the world that the fashion industry serves…. and in some sense… manages. I did a little background work on the folks who are allegedly portrayed Anna Wintour and Chanelin the movie… Anna Wintour the very successful executive editor of Vogue Magazine and Lauren Weisberger who wrote the original “Devil Wears Prada”.

By the way, Lauren has written a second book I plan to get my hands on called “Everyone Worth Knowing” about the public relations industry in New York. From what I have read so far… whew!… Lauren skewers this industry a bit as well…. actually, I think the movie DWP was very kind and supportive of the fashion industry compared to the book.

In any event, check out the Vogue site… style.com and see if you find an appreciation as I did for the ‘clackers.’

PS… Unlike the Pope, I can’t by Prada… their men’s shoes on-line go only to size 9 or so… what can I say… Italians must have small feet?

Fight On Trojans! Beat Michigan!

Fight On for Ol SC!

The Rose Bowl has many wonderful traditions including the famous Rose Parade and the traditional New Year’s Football Game in the Rose bowl! No bigger tradition existed than the historical rivalry between the Pac 10 conference and the Big 10 come January!

And the rivalry continues again this year!

Part of the tradition is for the two teams to meet together in many healthy pregame rivalries… here are a few pictures of the Trojans and the Wolverines enjoying themselves at Disneyland! The Rose Bowl means something special to those of us who remember huddling before the Television set or taking in the Rose Parade or game in Person. It is a special place and a unique experience.
