a Los Angeles Vacation

00 SCvacationVacations don’t have to be exotic, expensive or bound to long away locations. However, vacations do need to take you away from what you are doing and put you somewhere else to experience another of what life has to offer.

Karen had plans and we thought about tagging along and seeing an intersquad scrimmage among Southern Cal’s Trojan football team. It was a nice sneak peek into the world of Trojan football and a time to revisit SC again. We stayed at the Radisson just off campus giving us a chance to visit and eventually end up at the old hangout ‘el Chollo’s’... Los Angeles’s finest Mexican restaurant.

I am sure the coaches saw sparks of brilliance and some things they are going to work on… but from my perspective there was enough there to worry most people. I would have liked to see the quarterback run more… but that’s just me.

It was all fun!

apple pies all year long?

Is there anything wrong with having apple pies all year long?
Is there anything wrong with having apple pies all year long?

I know that it sounds like I am getting a bit obsessed about apples, but this years crop has been plentiful and wonderful. There is something about a healthy tree that seems to take care of itself without a lot of intervention. No longer do I have to sneak out and grab the apples in the dead of night before Laura is aware of what is happening to ‘her’ apples… and as I have written… there are more blossoms and more apples on the way!

I plan to keep about a dozen pies on hand and give away an equal amount… which is something I haven’t been able to do in the past… that’s called ‘sharing.’ So far, everyone seems to enjoy them.

So I am wondering for the first time in my life if I will find having  apple pies all year long a bit boring?  I guess if I wash it down with some home made french vanilla ice cream it won’t be too bad? 😉

not Trojan but close enough

Mythos a fine beer from Greece
Mythos a fine beer from Greece

Well, it’s not a beer from Troy and although the Greeks brought the walls down with their horse, we’ve got the horse now! So, when my wife and daughters came back from a conference in Athens, they couldn’t help but tell me of the wonders… which I will now enjoy myself! Fortunately, I was able to procure a sample or two from our local BEVMO.

However, it is  corned beef curing time… so this time the beer of choice will be Greek! Yes, I don’t use water in my brine mixture… only beer!

Isn’t everyone on Twitter, yet? Laura has 2 Twitter Accounts and so does my daughter Karen. I ‘tweet’ with one account… but I do so with a nice collection of chefs! Here’s our family twitter accounts:
