new looks and new plans for twitter

the template and the reality
don't spend a lot of time on your design for the new twitter look.... it's gone the way of facebook

From a marketing standpoint, I think twitter has done a good job in moving away from the basic position of being a news feed with their more expanded platform. In addition, the standard in ‘customized pages’ that myspace introduced years ago and folks like twitter followed have given way to the cold monolithic hospital colors of facebook. Actually, in truth, twitter is at a half way point of being more like the FireFox browser offering customized colors and backgrounds… but it is still a big reduction. You can see by the template I have for my site and the ‘reality’ behind it… not a lot comes across.

Not that I am complaining too much because I may actually be coming to the site more than the indirect ‘tweets from the phone’ approach. There are a few ‘tweeks’ I’d do… like a ‘transparent’ right sidebar ( at least 50%)… but that’s just me. I hope Karen has figured this out… but with her dissertation, teaching classes, conferences… I might have to wait a couple of days!  😉

However, it is a big improvement.

My daughters teach me so much. Sometimes, I actually enjoy it! 😉

Karen has been on me to get into the 21st century, but I found my medieval existence tolerable enough until I found out what else was out there. Simply put, Tweetdeck allows you to keep track of all of your various social media accounts from one place. It won’t help you farm, run a cafe or do a hit in Mafia Wars; but it is still very cool.

Oh yes, they turned me on to iPad. Thanks Ladies!

PS. “K.I.T. keeping it together” was a great line by Eddie Murphy in ‘Bowfinger.’

Twitter keeps you in touch with the things and people you love

Well... keeping up with the family on technology s a bit of an arms race!
Well... keeping up with the family on technology is a bit of an arms race!

Our family has always embraced technology. It is educational and it can be a lot of fun!

I have enjoyed facebook as a way to keep in touch with folks, but I am finding that Twitter is a nice way to easily follow people, organizations and news in a convenient format straight to your phone… or on-line.

All three of my daughters: Kristin, Karen and Karla are tech savvy and it causes their mother and I to work very hard to keep up and very occasionally impress them! I noticed that SC Trojan Head football coach Pete Carroll was on Twitter and I added him and began following him on Twitter. Nobody does it as good as SC when it comes to doing what works… and it inspired me to put up a background for my Twitter site. Here’s where the family contest came in… everyone wanted to do their own! WOW… they look great!

Now, I can follow various culinary chefs, the Trojans and the musings of friends and family from the comfort of my phone. It’s really nice to stay in touch. Try Twitter

Don’t you love technology when it can bring the things you love and enjoy close to you?

Here’s a secret I would like to share with the millions of SC fans… Pete Carroll is on TWITTER… and so am I… I said… AND SO AM I !!!

The fun thing is that you can follow daughters, friends , and anyone who you find interesting enough to want to hear their periodic ramblings…

Just another way to keep in touch!
