caviar makes everything wonderful

This is a elegant 'dietetic lunch' - broccoli stuffed potato, salad, Greek yogurt and caviar.

When you are on a diet, it is always nice to dress up your lunch with something to make you feel like it is special. Caviar fits the bill! The problem that most people (including me) have is the extravagant cost of this little garnish. Caviar is expensive, with some types going for hundreds of dollars an ounce… but that’s out of my budget. For years I would buy a 12 ounce jar from Smart & Final ( a west coast semi-wholesale market) for a minimal cost, but then when the price of this item hit the roof, it was dropped from their  inventory.

Not to be stopped by such a little thing as my favorite item being OOS (out-of-stock) and deleted; I checked the internet and found it on Amazon.com. However, I found a wonderful alternative at roughly 1/3 to 1/2 the cost from Iceland.

Frankly, I like giving those Vikings on that rugged little rock in the Atlantic the business... plus it is an indulgence I feel I can afford again at under $15 a 12 ounce bottle!

So, here it is  and as an alternative, I highly recommend it!

BTW. The stuffed potato comes from Jenny Craig… so diet food can be made delicious!

not just another diet book

I need three books... because I might want to read it again and again! 😉

Let me start off and say… this is not your typical ‘diet book’. There are no lectures, no plans, no pep talks. There is nothing you have to do but read it!

Reading this book will inspire you to maybe take that first step into losing a few pounds or a ton. You will read about many many people that have lost weight and what they thought about the process. You will meet folks like Laura and me and our family using a  portioned control plan by Jenny Craig to many others who have been successful using Atkins and other systems. Some folks will tell you about their surgical solution. It’s all there!

Here’s where to read more!

Good Luck!

What will we do without "Complete Start" Cereal??

One of the things we do when we travel is to take a little of ‘Jenny Craig’s Cuisine” with us… so our search for great cultural dining experiences doesn’t hurt our scale to much. One by one , our favorite Jenny Craig items have been or are being discontinued. Hopefully, Jenny Craig won’t look too much like Weight Watchers when it is all done.

Nestle’ bought Jenny Craig some time ago, and they have certain expectations which is fine. But, I tend to think that what made Jenny Craig’s success was the food. Frankly, it’s just better than the other diet food out there. So, when we heard that ‘Complete Start’ cereal was being discontinued, we went in to buy cases and order more… but we also are looking at making our own based on the original formulation.

I wrote about deconstructing Complete Start some time ago.

Sometimes in acquisition, the parent companies forget what made another company memorable. In the meantime, we are studying what we like to use for ‘maintenance.’

shhhh Jenny Craig Secrets revealed

Jenny Craig Meals
All this in one day on Jenny Craig and I still lose weight!

Laura and I went on Jenny Craig roughly 5 years ago. It took us about 7 or 8 months to lose around 85 lbs each and although my weight has been a little variable, Laura has stayed remarkably constant. The secret has been to use Jenny’s Maintenance Program to keep things in check.

It’s hard to believe that eating three meals like those above would actually help you lose weight… but it does for us. There is more food than the picture shows in our daily culinary feasting. First, besides the strawberries, blueberries and an entire banana in our breakfast cereal, we fill up these large bowls with non fat milk. Yes, I don’t measure my milk. Lunch consists of a large salad (cherry tomatoes, hearts of palm, tiny corn and mushrooms when I think of it) covered with Jenny’s Ranch Dressing and dinner is their chicken and beans along with a veggie plate ( sliced Maya onion, garlic cloves, Portabella mushrooms and thin beans). At 3pm, we have a homemade Biscotti (130- 199 calories depending how you make it) with our coffee.

So, let’s just say, we have tried the other programs, chewed on their bland, tasteless food covered in a chalky sauce… you really can’t live on it. Jenny isn’t perfect, but we know when we go on one of our planned extravagances … like the upcoming holidays, we know that Jenny will put us back on track.

When it comes to things that cost money… I want to make sure it works.

PS. We have cheesecake for dessert… is that over the top?
