Happy Birthday Kristin & Karen

Birthdays are great times to remember. Remembering is sometimes all we have when they are millions of miles away. ( gilt trip intended ) However, they are building their lives and that is all any parent can ask. I remember that when Kristin was born it was quite the ego trip as they handed her to me and she immediately stopped screaming, much to the annoyance of the head nurse. And with Karen, I remember the screams from the nurses as she exited with this giant mop of hair! I remember Karen’s strong grip on my finger which we forshadowing athletic efforts to come.

My youngest daughter drew these two pictures of her sisters ‘personas’. The next picture I don’t quite understand… but then as the only male, this is very normal. ( Karla has since informed me that when Karen was born we told Kristin that we were giving her a ‘gift’ of a sister… always a mixed reaction for the oldest child!)

Happy Birthday Ladies!

Dad

I am sure you are aware that not all balsamic vinegars or olive oils are created equally. There are reasons for the difference… and often times the expense.

For me, I am a bit old fashioned and I enjoy Balsamic vinegar and olive oil as a sauce for dipping bread, in particular , sour dough. I won’t bore you with the retelling of the differences , so here is a site that provides a brief overview. CLICK HERE

Bill Cosby spoke at Cal Poly last night wearing a Central High School teashirt, told some yarns and singled out certain people in the audience for special attention. It was a most enjoyable night. He spoke passionately about  many things and each story offered a lesson of its own. He talked a bit about marriage from a biblical perspective and some of life’s lessons hard learned along the way. Probably the biggest laugh from the older men in the audience came when he was talking about how God made a ‘help mate’ for man, then quipped about how and when  woman decided she was ‘boss?’ He complained about his wife putting things ‘where they belong’ and how he could never find them!  Laura laughed hardest at this point. He asked the audience why a woman will be all sweet and wonderful apon seeing a sleeping baby, but the same woman seeing a sleeping man on a couch would become angry!

Bill Cosby is remarkable is his ability to weave serious subjects, moral lessons and humor. It is not humor without purpose, but humor with a message.
