Designing your own bottle of 1800 Tequila

Well, the title of this blog is a bit misleading. However, what is fun is that many manufacturers of wines and spirits provide the opportunity for you to design your own label for their product. In essence, you can personalize a sometimes rather impersonal gift.

Most wine and spirits have offered holiday labels for years. these lables provide a place where they would print your name or the name of your firm. However, today, you can find a number of companies that will allow you to upload your own art and this is sensational!

The very familiar  bottle of 1800 Tequila  above appears with a variety of lables I put up: (left to right) the flaming statue at the University Of Tennessee at Knoxville,  my ‘el cid’ paella, our  ‘Chimichanga Legendario’, my 1994 Fatboy Harley Davidson, and a version of one of my many alter egos.

This holiday season, give something a bit more memorable.

Can a colorblind person read your webpage?

can a colorblind person read your web page?

On  Laura’s blog  today, she posed an interesting question: “what would I look like to a color blind person?” The question is intriguing. How would a color blind person find the internet? Would they find some pages readable while others were difficult or impossible?

On Laura’s Blog she has a link to help answer that question. I captured a portion of my blog and ran it through their analysis. Yep, it all is readable. I have to give credit to my daughters and the choices of colors they use for the blogs and the help they give me.

Obviously, making something available to colorblind people is a reasonable thing to do.

free speech means never having to say your sorry

free speech means never having to say you're sorry!

I couldn’t help from borrowing that old cliche from “Love Story” from the early 1970’s. Times seem to be repeating themselves with all of the agitation popping up around the country and here in California. Free Speech on college campuses has been one of the great battles in this decade. College campuses have inaugurated speech codes and other draconian efforts to squash voices that they disagree… however thanks to organizations like FIRE, this is changing.

What is ‘free speech’, anyway? It is the right to express yourself. Now, not all free speech is sweet, a lot of it can be downright offensive, but then who is it to judge? Obviously, there are limits on free speech, like yelling ‘fire’ in a theater, but by and large it is all basically fair game!

And the best way you can combat someone’s offensive free speech is by exercising your own!

This brings us to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, home of the ‘Sheldon Award Winner’ President Warren Baker.  Currently he is under pressure from various folks who want him to expell and punish, possibly even ‘waterboard’ a few students who in exercising their free speech managed to offend just about everyone. Well, most thinking people feel mobs are bad , so hopefully ol Dr. Baker can get it together long enough to give them a lesson on what is ‘free speech’!

Cal Poly is holding a ‘discussion’ soon and a lot of ‘free speech’ folks are watching.  Here’s why Cal Poly is so worried!

Body by Jenny Craig

bodies and spirits transformed by Jenny Craig

If every man knew what I know, they would have far few troubles with the women in their lives.

Nothing makes a woman happier than to find herself in a new ‘envelope.’ That’s what the plastic surgeons call it: making a new envelope… however, using Jenny Craig to carve away the fat and tone the body is far less painful and much less expensive.

Today, Laura got a hold of their ‘beginning’ picture at Jenny Craig! whew! In my fair and balanced way, I have shown two ‘after’ pictures. Karen has continued to lose weight and I think has dropped twenty since this picture has been taken! Both of these ladies sport size 4’s nowadays! Who would have thought that losing weight would have brought them so much pleasure?

As for me… nah, Jenny Craig did nothing for me, I have always been my college weight… ahem… at least that is the way I want to remember it!

Congratulations, ladies!

Come to my bar

whatya have, buddy?

I have found one of the most clever sites in a long time! It’s actually a way to introduce folks to the art and science of ‘mixology.’ In this shaken and not stirred site, ‘Jack’ the bartender introduces you to various concoctions with finesse and a story… sometimes a song!

Check it out!

Obviously, “Jack” has something to sell and he does it with a flare. However, he gives drink recipes, ideas and delightful videos and stories.
